Airport 2010 - Season 1, Ep 22
Gloria plans a romantic getaway to Hawaii for Jay's birthday; Jay is ecstatic until he learns that she also invited the entire family to come along; everyone arrives at the airport, and madness ensues: Mitchell forgets his ID, Manny is on a no-fly list, and Claire deals with her flying phobia.
Jay and Gloria stroll through the airport preparing to embark on a trip to Hawaii. It's Jay's birthday, and Gloria wanted to treat him to romantic dream vacation for two… make that eleven: Surprise! The entire family is coming along on the trip. Gloria spared no expense, paying for everyone’s plane tickets and hotel accommodations. Well, technically Jay paid. Gloria has planned activities like luaus, volcano hiking, helicopter rides, and swimming with the dolphins. It all sounds great to everyone but Jay. He just wanted to relax and enjoy the Robert Ludlum novels he has loaded onto his electronic book. Jay explains that he loves his family; he just doesn’t want to love them on vacation in Hawaii.
Problems arise even before takeoff. Mitchell forgot his driver's license, which means he can't get on the plane. Things were hectic at the house because Cameron scheduled a play date for Lily right before they were to leave for the airport. It was the only time Jasper, the most popular kid at Happy Time Preschool, could fit them into his schedule. Cam insists that a play date with Jasper will open doors for them at the school. So of course, Mitchell blames Cameron for this little predicament. Phil says he can cruise Mitchell home and be back in time to make their flight. This doesn't sit well with Claire, who is a bit on edge about flying.
The road to Mitchell's house is a long one, as Phil drives slow enough to be passed by a pedi-cab. When they finally arrive at the house, Mitchell realizes Cam has his keys. No problem: Phil is a realtor, which he explains is just a ninja in a blazer. They break in, and quickly snag Mitchell's wallet. As they race back to the airport, Phil gets a call from the security company that the alarm at his home was tripped. It turns out to be a break-out rather than a break-in, as Dylan was trapped inside. He'd spent the night staring at Haley, and was accidentally locked in the house when everyone left. He texted her to say he was trapped, but she was busy flirting with a cute guy at the terminal, whom she later learns is a mature looking 8th grader. She’s horrified, but Alex thinks it's hilarious.
Jay decides to drown his sorrows at the airport bar, and Claire takes a seat next to him to drown her fears. Her fear of flying is a recent phenomenon, probably stemming from the realization that she now has so much to lose. Jay, on the other hand, is drinking because he believes Gloria may have made this a big family trip because she is no longer interested in spending alone time with him. Gloria’s got problems of her own: the airport security insists that Manny is on the no-fly list. They just want a few words with the sharply dressed 8-year-old to make sure he isn't a terrorist. Jay arrives just as the TSA agent is inquiring as to why Gloria's return ticket differs from her son's. She explains that Manny is heading home early with the family so she can spend a few extra days in Hawaii with her husband… Surprise! Jay tells her that he couldn’t love her any more than he does at that moment. Then Gloria tells him that she knows of a topless beach in Hawaii… he stands corrected.
Phil and Mitchell make it back to the airport without a moment to spare. Cam and Mitchell both apologize for not being more in tune with each other. Phil and Claire do the same. When Claire becomes overly affectionate during her apology, Phil realizes that she’s drunk, which will only serve her well on the flight.
