CHARLES MESURE (plays Gerard)
Veteran actor Charles Mesure joins the OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE cast in series five, bringing over a decade’s film and television acting experience to his role as Gerard. Charles was working in the United States before returning to New Zealand for OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE. His recent acting credits include a recurring role on the drama Crossing Jordan, as well as roles in Las Vegas, Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, Bones, Stacked, Without a Trace, LOST and Briar & Graves.
For Charles, OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE is refreshingly different from his previous work: “I’m doing things I’ve never really had to do before because of the comedy and idiomatic nature of the writing. It’s very bold and very funny but it’s also very, very new for any New Zealand work that I’ve done, so it’s great to see,” he says. Before moving to the States, Charles worked on a number of New Zealand television productions. He is best recognised for his role as Detective Senior Sergeant Kees Van Dam in four series of Street Legal. In 2003, Charles won Best Supporting Actor for this role at the New Zealand Television Awards. He even co-wrote seven episodes in the series. Charles also had a core cast role in two series of City Life and a recurring role on Xena: Warrior Princess. Other television stints include Hercules, Mirror Mirror, The Life and Tims of Te Tutu, Tiger Country, A Twist in the Tale, Duggan and Charity Queens.
Charles’ film work includes Boogeyman, Skin and Bone, The Water Giant and Absolutely Positively Richard. He will also be involved in the biblical epic Kingdom Come, currently in pre-production.
During the 1990s, Charles did a three year degree course at NIDA and studied with the Revolutionary Acting Programme in Australia. During this time he acted, directed, designed and/or wrote upwards of 30 productions for the Sydney Univeristy Drama Society whilst there studying law.
