Cadillac Diner Review

It has been many years since I have ventured to Lower Hutt but here I am to visit the Cadillac Diner. It is cold and wet and I am most surprised to see such a colourful, tidy restaurant with a beautifully appointed Cadillac parked in the middle of it.

I arrive at the diner later in the evening and it is obvious that the staff have had a long week. The service is tardy; there are empty glasses and dirty dishes that sit far too long on the tables.

The menu is very much in keeping with the style of a diner. It oozes fun colours with dishes such as: cup of soup, burgers and the all American – “bottomless cup of coffee”.

I order the cup of soup, I love the title but not the content. It is too peppery, too thick and quite inedible. A common mistake with inexperienced chefs is that they do not taste everything that leaves the kitchen. The Kentucky Fried Chicken is quite the opposite; tasty and very moist. My friend’s ribs are also a winner.

The Cadillac Café looks every part of a classic American Diner but lacks in professional service and food. I feel that the Cadillac Diner would benefit from having a proper chef to bring the life into the food to match the décor.

This could be an easy fix if the owners will listen to all the advise it is given.
