Masterton is a beautiful town that boasts a charming farmers market, which I stumbled across on my morning walk. It has local producers, live music and fabulous, friendly locals. I watch the local baker set up her fresh baked wares and sample fresh baked pastries still warm from the oven – wherever that is.

Later I venture to The Fat Duck for lunch. It is located in the most beautiful setting, I still feel euphoric from my market experience and very positive as I walk in. Unfortunately I am hit with a wall of chaos and disorganisation. I am advised to find my own table and some guidance with recommendations would have certainly helped at this stage. Finally finding a table inside, our orders are taken and I do sense that chaotic matters are residing.

I do have a delightful lunch with a perfectly cooked risotto. The décor is pleasant and even the palm tree in the middle of the room starts to grow on me. The walls are fresh, unobtrusive and the place in fresh and cheerful. I see the children outside are very excited about the ice cream cart. All in all – perfect for a café in the park cafe.

The newly overhauled “Fat Duck” is perfectly placed for ladies lunches, family outings and even weddings. It has enormous potential and I only hope that these are exploited.
