Well, we’re 2 weeks into the X-Factor. We’ve been serving up some bad performers and a few great ones, all looking to hopefully hear Simon Cowell, L. A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears say they’ve got what it takes to compete for $5 million. Even though Cowell made a promise to shift the focus away from the panel and keep it on the stage, he seems unable to help himself from attracting controversy in his master plan to keep the show number 1.
Reports surfaced this week that Cowell has offered to pay for Britney Spears' upcoming nuptials to her long-time boyfriend Jason Trawick. Of course, there is a hitch, they must get married live on television! Where would the wedding take place, on the X Factor grand finale of course. If Simon does pull off the Britney TV wedding, it would certainly be a ratings winner for the show. Seriously, I think we can all agree, it’s a long shot.
Another thing that seems to have changed this season, Mr Nasty has traded in his sparring partner from last season, producer L. A. Reid for a younger model, 18 year old Demi Lovato. From the feisty back and fourths on camera, to their sparring in the media and its seems the score is currently set at Demi 1 Simon 0 after this great quote.
"We're trying to reach a younger demographic, and I don't feel we're going to accomplish that when he's showing more cleavage than Britney [Spears] and I are," she said.
I'd like to hear people's opinions on the relationship between Demi and Simon. At times, it is almost bordering on flirting. What do you think, slightly awkward?
The star making machine continues with auditions next week and so far I have to say, on camera at least, the judges seem relatively harmonious and professional. L. A. Reid is still fair but all business, Demi adds a lot of youthful enthusiasm and Britney seems to slowly be finding her comfort zone although maybe lacks a bit patience. Simon is still the one I care the most about. He's the "King" and sometimes its feels like he does it without really trying.
There are a lot of questions still unanswered though. How well will the two new judges do as mentors? Will the acts getting Britney / Demi be at a disadvantage due to their relative inexperience? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.
For now they work together really well, but soon they’ll start competing and if last year is anything to go by, the criticisms will get personal! So, while the 4 judges are getting along, I'm going to enjoy it while I can!
