Lucy Balfour delivers consistently dynamic and spirited performances. Classically trained, Lucy graduated from the International Ballet Academy in Christchurch in 2002 and joined Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2003.
The National Business Review has described Lucy’s abilities as ‘a taut display of the exotic, the sensual and menacing.’ Her performance as Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet 2008 was described as “riveting and “spine-tingling”, while her lead gypsy in 2008’s Meridian Season of Don Quixote was “deliciously irreverent”. Lucy performed lead roles in the 2010 triple bill From Here to There, with reviewer Sheryl Robinson declaring, “[Lucy] sets the tone of the work with her extension and graceful athleticism.”
Most recently, Lucy was a crowd favourite in the role of Lady Florine, the cat, alongside Shannon Dawson in The Meridian Season of The Sleeping Beauty. In 2012’s NYC: Three Short Ballets from the Big Apple, Lucy’s leading performance in Larry Keigwin’s widely-acclaimed Final Dress was described as ‘luminous’ (Theatreview) and ‘exceptional’ (Otago Daily Times).
