Songwriters and musician brothers Luke, 23 and Joel 21, grew up backstage at music gigs, with their dad working as a roadie for such legendary Aussie artists Marcia Hines, Mondo Rock and Jon English. The inseparable siblings from Newcastle have always sung together, but it wasn’t until two years ago they started to get serious starting a local band called ‘The Ondays’. “You either write music to make people feel something, or you want to make them dance,” Luke says. “Right now we want to make people dance!” Joel adds: “We bring our own thing to the table, we have an identity and we have songs.

We hope that Australia will love us.” The boys have given up their day jobs - . Luke is a physiotherapist and Joel is a youth worker at an outreach program - to give their all to The X Factor. Luke also had to put his wedding on hold while he is part of the show - his fiance Jessica also auditioned for the show but didn’t make it through the bootcamp stage. “But she’s really happy for me to stay in the competition,” he says. Of mentor Guy Sebastian, Joel says: “We just want to soak up everything we can from Guy - learn as much as we can and be ready for the first live performance.”
