Carol Hirschfeld
Carol realised the potency of television when while sitting at home one idle Sunday, her son looked at a pre-recorded image of his mother on the box and wailed loudly “I want the pretty Mummy”. More indignities were to follow. Like the time she found both her children chanting ‘helmet hair, helmet hair,” after catching sight of the mother reading a news update.
Still, aside from being mocked by her progeny, there have been many enjoyable aspects to her 20 year career in television. She started, somewhat leaner and greener, as a sub-editor on the late night news show Eyewitness. She had stints on and off camera with Fair Go, Crimewatch, Holmes, Frontline and Assignment. She spent much of her time before joining 3News directing and producing. She has spent more time than the average individual in the company of John Campbell and is proud to say she has survived the experience intact.
