Robert Bruno Steel House
Architect and sculptor Robert Bruno has been working his Steel House for over 28 years!
But this is not your average house. While most homes are built with framing and covered by an exterior skin, the exterior skin of the Steel House also makes up its structure. The 110 tonnes of steel that makes up the outside of this house also double as the glue that holds it all together.
Robert Bruno says, "The motivation here is really to do something that has some aesthetic value. I'm not particularly concerned about having a house. I don't build this to own a home, I built it because I like doing sculpture.
"Steel is a material that is very attractive to me because it has characteristics that you don't find in anything else. It works well in compression, it works well in tension. Pieces can be joined where they become like one."
