It is Valentine’s Day week; via voice-over, Puck surprises us with the revelation that he is in love with the zaftig Lauren Zizes. Perhaps it is because she treats him – as his mother does – like crap, or perhaps it is because of the several extra pounds she carries around with her. Either way one thing is certain: she doesn’t return his amorous feelings.

Finn approaches Quinn at her locker as she looks at the underwhelming cardboard Valentine’s Day heart her current boyfriend, Sam has given her. Finn says the kiss they shared on the football field had him seeing fireworks and he knows she felt the same; she denies it but he vows to prove it to her with a second kiss. Unfortunately for Finn, Quinn refuses to give him another opportunity. Despite his feelings for Lauren, Puck makes out with on-again-off-again girlfriend Santana; she tells him of the plans she’s made for them on “V Day” but he breaks the news that his heart belongs to another. Santana can’t believe she has lost her man to such a social outcast; Puck’s unrequited feelings for Lauren intensify when he sees how easily she puts Santana in her place. At the local coffee house (“The Lima Bean”) Kurt and Blaine wait to place their order. As talk turns to the impending holiday, Kurt (who has these many weeks been carrying a torch for the Dalton Academy upperclassman) is elated when Blaine confesses he is developing a crush on a guy whom he hasn’t known very long; he wonders if “it’s too much” to sing to someone on Valentine’s Day. A breathless Kurt responds, “Not at all.” At McKinley, Finn enjoys his newfound celebrity as the first quarterback to lead the Titans to a championship title. While he clearly can have his pick of girls, he realizes the reason his relationship with Rachel never worked is because he is still in love with Quinn. Feeling confident he could win her back from Sam if only he could get a second kiss, Finn has an idea. In the choir room, Mr. Schuester says the kids’ assignment for the week is to pick a partner and sing a love song that communicates what love means to them. Finn announces that in the hope of raising money to help defray the club’s expenses of travelling to Regionals, he will be setting up a kissing booth and charging one dollar per kiss. Later, Puck asks Lauren out on a Valentine’s Day date; she turns him down but he is undeterred.

At Dalton Academy, Blaine tries to convince the other Warblers to break with their long-standing tradition and help him serenade “an individual … off-campus.” At first, the others are mortified at the idea but Kurt convinces them going outside their comfort zone can only help them become stronger. The club’s leaders relent. At first Kurt is overjoyed but his mood quickly swings when Blaine mentions the performance will be staged at a Gap store in a mall because “the guy I like is a Junior Manager” there. That night Kurt shares his devastation with Rachel and Mercedes; while Rachel is characteristically self-obsessed and prefers to discuss how she plans to take advantage of Finn’s kissing booth in order to win him back, the more level-headed Mercedes offers that they – like their idols “Whitney, Barbara and Patti Lupone” - should harness the pain of being alone and use it to become legends. The others see the wisdom in her words. The next day Puck performs his love song; aided by the other guys he directs his performance (Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls”) at Lauren. After the song an irate Santana storms out; Lauren tells Puck it was the first time anyone ever sang her a love song “and it made (her) feel like crap.” At the kissing booth girls line up and Finn is raking in the bucks; he takes a break and approaches Quinn who is still resisting taking his bait. As they talk they move closer to one another; despite Quinn’s resolve she is clearly tempted to kiss him again. As she walks away we see that Sam has been intently watching his girlfriend and her ex from afar.

Sam confronts Quinn about what he observed; despite her reassurances that there is nothing going on between her and Finn, Sam is clearly jealous. He wonders why – if she really has no residual feelings for Finn – she has not patronized his kissing booth. She finally gives in and says if it will make Sam happy, she will kiss Finn. Rachel gets to the front of the kissing booth line. She tells Finn about her new attitude regarding staying single until she’s established herself as a star: “Men are dream killers.” Despite her outlook she is taken aback when Finn opts to give her a kiss on the cheek; she confesses that she is still in love with him and asks again for his forgiveness. He denies her request noting that her infidelity “means something” to him; nevertheless, he gives her a gold star necklace he had bought her for a Christmas present but never gave her. He says she is right to stay single, adding she’s “a real star” who “needs to shine.” He says she doesn’t need him (or any other guy) to “anchor (her) to Lima.” Mike Chang wheels Artie down the hallway; they discuss their improbable good fortune in dating two of “the raddest girls in school.” This leads to the pair performing Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” for the Glee Club. Everyone – especially Brittany and Tina – love the song and Mike’s phenomenal dance moves. Later, Santana approaches Puck by the lockers; she still can’t believe he is dumping her for Lauren who doesn’t even like him. Lauren comes upon the pair; insults are exchanged and the girls begin to fight. While Santana is able to get her licks in she is clearly no match for Lauren, who throws the Cheerio around like a rag doll. Eventually, Coach Beiste intervenes and breaks the two apart. A desperate Puck begs Lauren to go out with him; she tells him to make “a formal presentation” and she’ll “consider” it. Quinn approaches the kissing booth; Sam stands with her serving as a chaperone. Finn and Quinn kiss; she does (as Finn anticipated) see fireworks but tries to play it cool and Sam is none the wiser. As Sam walks away Quinn tells Finn to meet her in the auditorium tomorrow after school; Finn smiles.

At The Gap, members of the Warblers unobtrusively mill about the store as Kurt gives the nervous Blaine words of encouragement; despite Blaine’s assertion that he and his crush (“Jeremiah”) haven’t even been out on a date, Kurt reassures him, “He’s gonna love you.” Blaine gathers his courage and gives the other Warblers a nod. Suddenly – in the style of a flash mob – the store erupts in song. Blaine and his cohorts sing Robin Thicke’s “When I Get You Alone.” As Blaine approaches a stunned Jeremiah, the other store patrons seem to enjoy the impromptu concert. Later outside the store, Jeremiah confronts Blaine and says the stunt has cost him his job; obviously Blaine’s feelings for Jeremiah are not mutual. In the McKinley choir room a sullen Santana watches as the Glee Club couples canoodle; she specifically takes note of wayward glances shared between Finn and Quinn and knows immediately the pair is “fooling around.” She sets her mind to “what Santana does best: revenge.” After a trip to the nurse’s office where she willingly exposes herself to mono (which she has had so many times she can apparently be a carrier without suffering any symptoms,) Santana approaches the kissing booth and plants a deep, hard kiss on the unsuspecting Finn. In the library Puck gets on bended knee; he presents Lauren with a candy ring and invites her to Breadstix for a pre-Valentine’s date. She accepts both the ring and the invite. Quinn arrives at the auditorium to meet Finn for their clandestine rendezvous; she makes it clear that she “thinks” she’s still in love with Sam and whatever happens between her and Finn, she won’t break up with Sam until she knows for sure ”one way or another,” how she feels. They kiss passionately and agree to keep it their secret “always.”

At The Lima Bean, Kurt and Blaine discuss the events at the mall; Blaine is mortified with embarrassment but Kurt tries to be supportive. When Kurt confesses that he thought he was Blaine’s crush, Blaine responds by saying he “really, really” cares about Kurt but – clearly - he is no good at romance and doesn’t want to risk losing Kurt’s friendship. They agree to stay friends and see what blossoms: like Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in “When Harry Met Sally.” At Breadstix, Puck has been stood up by Lauren; as a consolation prize he makes out with one of the eatery’s waitresses. The next day in Glee rehearsal, Finn announces his kissing booth has raised three-hundred-twenty-four dollars. It is not nearly enough to fund their trip to Regionals, but it is a start. As Tina sings an emotionally charged rendition of the Rodgers and Hart standard “My Funny Valentine” to Mike, both Finn and Quinn begin to show signs of their developing illness; they both excuse themselves and go to the nurse’s office. Santana takes note of their symptoms and announces to the class that it sounds like the two have contracted mono.

As Finn and Quinn wait in the nurse’s office they discuss their predicament: certainly their amorous meeting is destined to be found out. Finn makes it clear he wants to get back together with Quinn but she – as previously stated – needs to figure out how she feels about Sam first; Quinn adds that she’s not positive Finn is truly over Rachel. Puck confronts Lauren about blowing off their pre-Valentine’s date; she confesses that she does have feelings for him but doesn’t want to be another notch on his bedpost. She says if he really does like her he needs to be willing to take it slow. He agrees to try; she agrees to go out with him on V-Day. Later on in the day Rachel goes to the nurse’s office to check on Finn; she seems to be ready to give up any notion that they will get back together but he confesses he is still confused about who he really wants to be with. She begins to sing Katy Perry’s “Firework;” the song leads her through the hallways and back into the choir room before concluding at Breadstix on Valentine’s Day Eve. Most of the Glee kids (in couples or as singles) are also at the restaurant; they play audience as Kurt, Blaine and the Warblers sing Paul McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs.”
