The Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in Flat Bush, south-east Auckland is an impressive sight.
Based on a design of a palace from the ancient Tang Dynasty,
the Temple contains “The
Water Drop Café”- a vegetarian café open to everyone, regardless of faith.
Every year, the Temple
invites the whole community to take part in Buddha’s Birthday celebrations – a
spectacular event involving prayers and offerings, cultural performance and
dozens of Asian food stalls.
Julie creates some Asian-style dishes of her own to share at
the celebrations, and gets dressed up in a silk Chinese Princess outfit to take
part in the blessing ceremony.
