Monique works at the South Auckland Animal Shelter
taking care of all the dogs that the Animal Control Officers bring in– assessing them for behavioural problems and
deciding whether or not they are suitable for adoption, as well as feeding,
walking, cleaning and all the other daily dramas that come with looking after
up to 150 dogs.
Although it can be tough not to become attached when
you spend so much time with the animals, Monique remains philosophical about
the situation, saying the seven days many of the dogs spend with her are
probably the best seven days of their lives.
