Julianna Margulies (as Alicia Florrick)
As an Emmy and Screen Actors Guild award winner, and Golden Globe nominee, Julianna Margulies has achieved success in television, theater and film.
Margulies' television credits include The Sopranos, The Grid, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination, and the mini-series The Mists of Avalon. She also starred as one of the original members of ER, for which she received both an Emmy Award and SAG Award as nurse Carole Hathaway.
Margulies' feature film credits include Snakes on a Plane, The Darwin Awards, Slingshot, Ghost Ship, Evelyn, What's Cooking, The Newton Boys, A Price Above Rubies, Traveller, Paradise Road and The Man From Elysian Fields. Margulies will next be seen in City Island co-starring Andy Garcia, Alan Arkin, and Emily Mortimer. The film won the Audience Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, and will be release in late 2009 or early 2010.
On stage, Margulies made her Broadway debut in 2006 starring in Festen. Margulies completed a successful run in Jon Robin Baitz's Ten Unknowns at Lincoln Center opposite Donald Sutherland for which she won the Lucille Lortel Award. Other theater credits include The Vagina Monologues both Off Broadway and in the Los Angeles premiere, Fefu and Her Friends for the Yale Repertory Theatre, The Substance of Fire at the Asolo Theatre, Living Expenses, Dan Drift, and Book of Names at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York, and Intrigue with Faye at the NY Stage and Film Festival. She also appeared on stage in The Lover, In the Boom Boom Room and Balm and Gilead.
Margulies was born in New York, where she currently resides.
Character Biography
Alicia's always been the good girl - the good girl who became the good wife, then the good mom: devoted, struggling not to outshine her husband. With her husband in jail, and after a thirteen-year absence, Alicia re-enters the workforce starting at the bottom as a junior associate. Having spent so much time in the shadow of her husband, Alicia knows when you really want answers, you don't go to the CEO, you share a salad with his secretary. After years of being lied to by her husband, Alicia is on guard, and realizes she’s not such a bad lie detector. But Alicia is far from a super-lawyer. She loses cases, she makes mistakes, but her saving grace is always her affinity for her clients. She knows what it’s like to be misjudged.
