Claire Silvester

When Claire Silvester set off overseas as a young journalist, her mother gave her two bits of advice: “Don’t hitchhike and don’t marry a foreigner”. She heeded her mum’s words and eventually turned up at 3 News in Auckland 5 years ago, after shifting house 9 times, in five different countries, over 10 years.

Tired of her numerically challenging life, Claire realised it was time to settle down. It was clearly good for Claire. She reported for news, produced some stories for 60 Minutes and even won a Qantas award for Best Current Affairs Producer.

Though born in Christchurch, Claire still refuses to wear pearls and can’t bring herself to put her collar up. Her first job was in Greymouth, reporting for Radio New Zealand. While overseas she worked as a producer for the BBC and ABC Australia.
