What are you doing with yourself now that Outrageous Fortune as finished production?
I’m currently re-rehearsing Michael Galvin’s play, Station to Station. We performed it at the Herald in Auckland two years ago and now we are taking to Hastings, New Plymouth and Hamilton. I’ve never done a tour before so I’m really looking forward to it.

How does that compare to your life while you were on the show?
It’s very different. The hours are better for one! With theatre you generally rehearse for about 6-7 hours a day, whereas on a film set you’re there for 12 hours. And theatre productions operate on a far smaller scale; at the moment I’m working with three actors, a director and a stage manager, while on a film set you’re surrounded by about 50 cast and crew.

What do you miss most about your Outrageous Fortune days?
So many things! The whole experience is kind of wrapped up into one entity for me: the people, the environment and the work were all the components but each one informed the others, so it’s hard to prise them apart and pick one.

Can you create a comparison for us between working on Season One and Season six? How did they differ?
In the first season we were all getting to know each other, our characters and the way the show worked, so we were probably slightly less sure of ourselves, but, at the same time, it felt very free because no one had seen it yet, it was our thing so there was no judgement on it. By season six, we all knew what we had to do, so the process of making the show was smoother, but there was also more pressure to maintain a really high standard because of the success of the previous seasons.

What is your fondest memory of making Outrageous Fortune?
Sitting around the West’s table while filming an interminable dinner scene and being completely overcome with hysterical laughter – this happened often.

What did you think of the Outrageous Fortune exhibition?
I thought it was great. It felt pretty weird because I was viewing something so personal to me as a member of the public, but I thought everyone involved did a really good job.

Do potential suitors ever accidentally call you Loretta?
Ha! Not so far. Lots of people call me Loretta in the street, but they are people that I don’t know.

If you could make a guest appearance on any TV show, what show would that be and why?
OOhh, good question…I’m sure this will change over time, but right now it would be Mad Men. I love the show and I adore that period, I’d love to get dressed up like the ladies on that.

How did you deal with the fame, as a young actress?
I think I just put it in perspective. Being recognised is an unavoidable part of doing what I love, so I just try to accept it, recognise it for what it is, and not let it affect me too much.

While you’re watching the re-runs, what storyline will you be most excited about seeing?
I think just the early seasons in general. I havn’t watched them for years, so it will definitely be a blast from the past. I’m sure there will be a few cringey moments!
