Siblings Libby and Ben Crawford have been crowned the first winners of The Block NZ, taking home an amazing $237,000 after a dramatic auction held in central Auckland tonight – and televised LIVE on TV3.
Ten weeks of renovation, relationship drama, and top ratings culminated in a two-hour finale where the four Anzac Street houses were auctioned by Bayleys Real Estate, with all four of the houses selling.
The competing couples – Hamilton’s Sarah and Richard, Ginny and Rhys from Taranaki, Libby and Ben from Southland, and Wellingtonians Rachel and Tyson – were on the edge of their seats throughout the auction as each of the houses went on the market in front of a packed audience of invited guests.
At the end of the night, the house renovated by Libby and Ben sold for $961,000, giving the couple the highest profit.Under the rules of the competition, the winners keep the $157,000 profit, and take home an additional $80,000 cash prize.
