It seems that Helen knows a lot more than she’s been telling. She knows something about the connection between Peterson, Villiers and Cranston… and she’s very keen to keep it under wraps. For someone who left criminal law behind her, she seems to still be friends with a lot of unsavory characters. Helen is on the hunt for the person that sent Peterson the video of the murder. She’s starts making insinuations about his “state of mind” before asking IT to give her remote access to his computer.
When Helen shows up at the funeral of Charlie’s father, it’s obvious what she found. The email containing the video was in Simon’s trash email folder! Helen should have checked the security footage at M&L though. It was Charlie who sent the email – he used Simon’s computer so it couldn’t be traced back to him. Charlie has the DVD – the smoking gun that will see Peterson’s empire unravel. He took it front Rose!
The night of Rose’s death Charlie was following her. Helen thought the PA had too much influence over Simon and asked Charlie to keep an eye on things. Villiers was also following Rose that night, but he wasn’t planning on killing her. He wanted to rough her up a bit as a warning to stay clear of his girl. When Charlie spotted Villiers he and Rose went to his boat to try and get away.
It was there that she told him about the DVD and her plan to go to the police. Charlie couldn’t let that happen though – Peterson would be implicated in the whole mess with Cranston! Charlie needed Peterson to help with his father’s case. Rose wouldn’t be convinced and they struggled for the DVD – she fell off the side of the boat cracking her head open on the concrete jetty.
Charlie was so afraid of ending up in prison with his father that he decided to cover it up, pushing her water into the water and under the wharf.
Who would have guessed the office pretty boy was behind it all along?
