Ricky Gervais Golden Globes 2012 opening speech
Ricky Gervais has fired his opening gambit at Hollywood's elite, gathered for the Golden Globes.
"No profanity..., no nudity...., no smut or innuendo and I'm not to liable anyone and I mustn't mention Mel Gibson this year,” said Gervais of the rules he was supposed to abide by this year.
"Not his private life, his politics, his recent films and especially not Jodie Foster's Beaver. I haven't seen it myself... I've spoken to a lot of guys here, they haven't seen it either, but that doesn't mean it's not any good."
It’s Gervais' third time hosting the awards and in the leadup he warned his behaviour would be 'ten times worse' than his previous appearances, where he lampooned stars such as Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp and Sir Paul McCartney.
Despite his gags offending Downey Jr and others, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voted to have Gervais return, confirming he would return to the role in November.
