After gaining a place at the presitigious Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he was studying a Bachelor of Music, Andrew Lawson decided to defer his course. He’s ended up in the Final 12 after blowing the judges away with his performance of Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon in his audition.

“I didn’t like the theory side... I just wanted to get going and kick start my singing, which is why I left the course,” Andrew says of his decision. “I heard about The X Factor auditions and decided to give it a go.” Born in Northern Ireland, Andrew and his family moved to New Zealand when he was six years old, before moving to Noosa five years ago. He started playing guitar at age seven, and writes his own music. Singing is the first thing he does when he gets up and the last thing he does before bed. Andrew says his Dad exposed him to a different world of music.

He lists Elvis, Sinatra, Dean Martin and Willie Nelson as his singing idols. “They are great story-tellers. My Dad grew up with that type of music and has always played it at home.” Recently single, Andrew is ready for the next chapter in his life. “I want to make a living from singing and performing, and be a musician that is respected and brings something new to the industry. I know I have something different to everyone else.”

He’s thrilled that Kyle is his mentor - “He’ll get down to the nuts and bolts of everything - he’s not going to beat around the bush.” Away from music, Andrew loves to surf and spend time at the beach.
