Britney Spears & Demi Lovato Join The X Factor

Following months of speculation, Simon Cowell has confirmed that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will join ‘The X Factor’ juding panel when the show returns later this year. The pair will fill the judges seats left open by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, both fired by Cowell after ratings for Season 1 fell short of his sky-high predictions.
After an extended period away from the spotlight, Spears says she is excited to be joining the show. Although details of her contact are yet to be confirmed, it has been widely reported that the pop sensation will bank a hefty $15 million for her appearance in the series.
"I'm absolutely delighted Britney and Demi are joining us," says Simon Cowell. "Britney remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she's talented, fascinating – and I believe she knows exactly how to spot The X Factor. Demi's had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She's young, confident, and enthusiastic. I think it’s really important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes we are making to the show."
However, not everyone seems quite so confident that the Grammy-winner is a positive addition to the judging panel. Shock jock Howard Stern slammed the star at a news conference in New York where he was promoting his debut as a judge on ‘America’s God Talent.’
"I think Britney is going to stand there and eat a lollipop and wear a sexy outfit and I don't expect great opinions out of her. I'll tune in and see what kind of a train wreck she is."
