Emmerich’s versatility as a character actor in combination with his leading-man charisma has led to appearances in a wide array of acclaimed films and roles. Emmerich appeared in J.J. Abrams’Super 8(produced by Steven Spielberg), Mark Ruffalo’s directing debutSympathy for Delicious, David Schwimmer’sTrustand Gavin O’Connor’sWarrior, also marking his fourth collaboration with O’Connor.
On television, Emmerich appeared to great acclaim as ‘Dr. Jenner’ in Frank Darabont’s record-breaking hitThe Walking Dead. He was last seen onstage opposite Patricia Clarkson in the Kennedy Center’s production ofA Streetcar Named Desire, and at the Cherry Lane Theater in Stephen Belber’sFault Lines, directed by David Schwimmer.
Emmerich studied filmmaking at New York University, where he wrote and directed the shortThe Painter, which won the Cine Award and the International Film Festival of Spain. His second film,The Date, won the Golden Bear at the Houston Film Festival. Emmerich received an honors degree in history from Yale University. He was born and raised in New York City.
