From Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber to Madonna and Kanye, the most successful recording artists understand the importance of image.
Before turning up to audition, it’s important to decide what kind of artist you want to be and style yourself accordingly. If you want to be the next Britney Spears, Adam Lambert or Nicki Minaj, make sure your look reflects this. The X Factor judges are searching for the next big recording artist so help them envision the kind of singer you could be.
Here are a few examples of style disasters to avoid when pulling together your audition look.
Do not wear a crop top. Not ever. In addition to being great advice for your audition, this is great advice for life. Unless you are working out at the gym and have a six-pack à la Pink or Brad Pitt, put that puku away.
A similar rule should be applied to any other risqué flesh-baring ensemble. Bikinis, fishnet body stockings or anything that that may have come from Lil-Kim’s wardrobe will get you attention…..for all the wrong reasons. This is a singing competition – not a beach in The GC. Anything that distracts from your vocals is not a good idea. Keep it classy New Zealand!
Make sure your look is current and on trend. The bowl cut went out, along with Nick Carter, in 1990's. This is one of many past trends that should never be brought back. Also, if you are going to be appearing on national television, make sure you are wearing clothes that fit. Not only will you look better, but you will feel more confident and more comfortable when you are performing.
Don’t overdo it with the makeup. Less is more. We want to see you, not the entire contents of the cosmetics counter at MAC.
