The Lemon Tree (The Pantry Café) Review
On arriving in
Greerton I was surprised to hear that The Pantry Café was having problems as it
is situated in the perfect spot. It is right in the middle of a busy shopping
centre with a pedestrian crossing right outside the front door, it has full
glass windows and a big front door – all very welcoming.
I immediately
like the feel of the café with the pale blue walls and “pantry” style pictures.
This café will certainly look better when the shelves are filled with home made
preserves and other pantry style goods.
The staff are
all very warm and welcoming and I am immediately briefed on what is on the menu
and that they have just undergone a make over. You can feel their excitement.
On ordering, I
am intrigued by the sound of the “gourmet pies” - I am not really a pie fan. My
guests order the pancakes and the hash stack. With our orders in place we try
to find a clean table to sit at. Settling for one with dirty dishes still on it
I am not impressed at how long it takes for them to be cleared.
Our coffees are
very slow in coming and our waitress makes the mistake of asking if we would
like another one before we have received our first!
There is
evidence that the floor is slowly falling apart due to the lack of staff and
leadership.
Our food however
is very good. My pie was possibly the best I have ever had, jam packed with
chicken and leeks and the hash stack is made with fresh potatoes – no sign of
anything frozen. But the biggest surprise is the pan “cake”, it is oversized
but delicious and should be a talking point for the locals.
With more work
on service this café there is no reason why The Pantry Café shouldn’t succeed.
