Toby's Review
Toby’s is an iconic restaurant tucked behind Titirangi. In
it’s day, it had a reputation of being “worth the journey”.
The
night I visited, Tony’s was full and the place was humming. We were
duly seated and presented with menus, then sadly left alone and
possibly forgotten – for a long time. It was very obvious that the
staff had no idea on service and there was no sense of command or
control on the floor. To add salt to the slowly festering wound, we
were asked if orders had been taken and again left alone! Our waiter,
although very pleasant, unfortunately pours the wrong wine. What else
can happen?
Toby’s has many issues with
staff relationships and it is evident that there is a lot of tension.
To Toby’s credit, the food I had on the night was sensational.
Beautifully presented with full flavours and perfectly seasoned. The
restaurant itself is freshly redecorated and has warmth in the feel of
the dining room with a slight Mediterranean feel.
With special attention to staff training this restaurant has incredible potential.
